'Beyonce,' 'Will Smith,' 'Julia Roberts' complain about sharing names with celebrities
A shy teen named Beyonce is getting even more attention after dozens of people with celebrity names have come forward to commiserate with her.
It all started when her story was posted on Humans of New York, a blog that posts short but often powerful quotes from people the photographer, Brandon Stanton, meets on the streets of New York City. When he approached Beyonce, the topic of her name naturally came up. She described how hard it was to remain inconspicuous on her first day at a new school.
"When the teacher started calling attendance, I got really nervous, because every time people learn my name is Beyonce, somebody starts singing 'Single Ladies,'" she explained. "And some did, of course."
But Beyonce is not alone.
As the post began to garner attention, people who share names with celebrities came out of the woodwork. And it wasn't just celebrities name-alikes who had a beef about reactions to their names.
Plenty of people, it turns out, have a sense of humor about their names.
