New Dr. Seuss book hits store shelves 24 years after author's death

Dr. Seuss' latest book was sitting in a box for at least two decades, but starting Tuesday, it can be found in bookstores everywhere.

"What Pet Should I Get?" is the first book by Theodor "Seuss" Geisel to be released since his death in 1991.

Over his more than 50-year career, the author wrote and illustrated dozens of books including "The Cat in the Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham." The last book he released was "Oh the Places You'll Go!" in 1990. It is believed that his never-released book was written around 1958-1962.

"'What Pet Should I Get?' captures the excitement of a classic childhood moment -- choosing a pet -- and features the brother and sister characters that Dr. Seuss drew in 'One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish,'" the publisher, Random House Children's Books, wrote in a release.

For decades, the book had been left in a box in the home of Audrey Geisel, Dr. Seuss' widow. She tucked away some of his material shortly after he died and rediscovered it when she and Seuss' secretary were cleaning out his office.

When the discovery of the manuscript was announced in February there were more than 200 million tweets about it in the first 48 hours, according to the publisher.

At least two more books were discovered with this one. Their titles and release dates have yet to be announced.
