LOS ANGELES -- Actor Shia LaBeouf says he was the victim of a sexual assault.

He made the allegations in e-mails exchanged for an interview with "Dazed and Confused" magazine.

LaBeouf says the alleged assault happened earlier this year in Los Angeles during his #IAMSORRY performance art exhibit.

As part of the project, LaBeouf would sit in a room with a bag over his head and people would come in and talk to him.

LaBeouf says many of the people who came to see him were kind and understanding. But he says one woman came in and whipped him for several minutes before raping him. He called the experience a "trauma" and "painful."

LaBeouf says he did not report the alleged assault.
