PASADENA, TX -- Back to school is a busy time for parents, teachers and school administrators, but no one counted on an extra surprise during school registration at an elementary school when a mother gave birth!

The staff at Fisher Elementary in Pasadena ISD were prepared for a long day of registering students for the 2014-15 school year, with parents lining up beginning at 6am to register students for Pre-K. At 10:30am, though, the focus of the day moved to a mother who was in labor.

Staff members called for emergency medical assistance, but before EMS could arrive, the baby was born in the campus clinic, aided by the school nurse and principal. As the baby was being swaddled, a Pasadena ISD police officer who is also an EMT arrived to assist.

School officials say Vanessa Deleon and her baby boy were both taken to Bayshore Medical Center. Both are doing well at this time. This is Deleon's fourth child.
