The farm-to-table movement could become the farm-to-cafeteria movement.

A new federal pilot program wants to put fresh produce on the plates of California school children.

The new Department of Agriculture project gives $300,000 to the state.

School districts can use that money to buy more fruits and vegetables from local farms and wholesalers for their state-assisted meal programs.

California is one of eight states taking part in the program.
