SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Health inspectors have ordered a Bay Area tofu company to shut down until it improves sanitary conditions.

The owners of the Fong Kee Tofu Company in San Francisco agreed to cease operations on Tuesday as part of a settlement.

A civil lawsuit against Fong Kee claimed that Food and Drug Administration inspectors found health violations last year. Those included pigeons on top of plastic-wrapped raw soybean pallets and insects where tofu was processed.

Company owners could not be reached for comment.
