McDonald's franchises in Japan add tofu nuggets to menu

JAPAN (KGO) -- McDonald's franchises in Japan have a new product on their menus -- tofu and fish McNuggets.

These new Tofu Shinjo McNuggets resemble Chicken McNuggets but have a mixture of tofu, minced white fish and a medley of vegetables. They're served with a ginger-flavored sauce on the side.

The new product comes following reports that its Chinese meat supplier had been selling expired beef and chicken. The scandal has affected 20 percent of McDonald's meat supply in Japan.

But these new tofu nuggets were planned before the scandal.

Fans of the product like the fact that they're healthier and are meat-free.
