NORTH CAROLINA: Chili, cole slaw, onions and sometimes mustard. Call it the best-of-all-possible-worlds dog.
ATLANTA: In the South, hot dogs are "dragged through the garden" - served in a top-sliced bun and blanketed with creamy coleslaw.
CHICAGO: Yellow mustard, relish, chopped onion, tomato slices, spicy pickled green peppers, a pickle spear, and a dash of celery salt. Most importantly, NO KETCHUP!
DETROIT: Smothered in all-beef chili, raw white onion, yellow mustard, and shredded Cheddar. Go big or go home.
KANSAS CITY: An ode to the Reuben sandwich. Topped with melted Swiss cheese and sauerkraut, tucked into a sesame-seed bun.
NEW YORK CITY: spicy ground mustard and onions sauteed in tomato paste. Available on most street corners.
LOS ANGELES: Bacon-wrapped and topped with avocado pico de gallo and spicy chipotle mayo.

Sugar Dish Me

Ah, hot dogs. The neglected cousin of burgers, but potentially more delicious. They're a more manageable size, they're always flavorful and they're hard to mess up while grilling. With burgers you have to ask for preferences, and who's got the time for that?! Raise a glass to the humble hot dog, who came from blue-collar beginnings and now fulfills our wildest barbecued dreams.

You may be accustomed to ketchup and mustard, but there are places in this wonderful country of ours where traditional toppings just will not do. Check out these regional hot dog styles for inspiration, but remember that ultimately, there is no such thing as a wrong hot dog topping.

After you've decided which is your favorite, check out what your hot dog says about you.
