Los Altos residents cautioned about E. Coli in water
Many Los Altos residents have been cautioned to boil their water before drinking it after E. Coli was found in their drinking water.

LOS ALTOS, Calif. (KGO) -- Officials with the California Water Service on Thursday said customers under boil water advisories in the South El Monte area of Los Altos should continue to boil water until additional water quality test results are received.

Water quality tests results from a main repair on Sunday in the area of Seven Acres Lane detected the presence of E. Coli and total coliform, officials said.

Officials said follow-up testing in the South El Monte area pointed to a hydrant as the likely source of the total coliform presence.

Cal Water installed a new hydrant Thursday to be able to take the existing hydrant out of service, officials said.

Additional water quality test results are expected later today.

Cal Water customers under the boil water notice are advised to boil water one minute or use bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food until the test results are received.

Customers who used bottled water during the advisory can save their receipts for reimbursement by Cal Water. For more information, customers can call the Cal Water Customer Center at (650) 917-0152.
