LOS ANGELES (KGO) -- A new type of farmers market opened in LA Friday, but instead of fresh produce, farmers are selling fresh cannabis.

Farmers are set up in a 15,000 square foot warehouse. Organizers say when patients buy directly from pot farmers they're able to save money by not having to pay dispensary mark ups.

Customers have to show their medical marijuana card and identification to get in.

"The same interaction you'd see at a regular farmers market, where you can discuss the products with the people that are cultivating them," California Heritage Market spokesperson Paizley Bradbury said.

The market is open through Sunday and if it's a hit, organizers hope to open every weekend.
