The "dad bod" is no joke. Being a father may make men fat.

A new study out of Northwestern University steinberg School of Medicine found that gaining weight after the birth of a child is a very real part of becoming a dad.

The typical six-foot tall man who lives with his children gained nearly four and a half pounds on average after becoming a first time dad.

"They may then skip their exercise, skip their ability to go out and take care of themselves a little bit," said Greg Garfield.

The unintentional weight gain corresponds to mindless eating, and making poor food choices. Parents need to think about their health the same way that they think about their kids health
