Number of confirmed California measles cases expected to rise
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The number of confirmed measles cases in California is expected to rise on Wednesday when the state health department updates its stats following a long holiday weekend.
The latest number stands at 113 cases right now.
Almost two-thirds of the infections involve people who visited or worked in one of the two Disneyland theme parks, or had contact with an infected person who was there.
The majority of people infected with measles were not vaccinated.
Measles is highly contagious and has made a comeback in the U.S. in recent years due to a drop in vaccinations.
There are 15 cases in the Bay Area. Six in Alameda County, three in San Mateo County, two each in Marin and Santa Clara counties, and one in Solano County.
It usually takes 7 to 18 days for measles symptoms to appear once someone has been exposed. The first symptoms are fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes, and sore throat. Then you'll get spots in your mouth followed by a rash all over.
