BERKELEY, Calif. (KGO) -- An 11-year-old Richmond boy had surgery Thursday to have part of his right leg amputated.

Amit Vigoda has a rare disorder that causes his leg bones to fracture under the slightest stress.

Vigoda begged to undergo the operation, so that he can walk for the first time, with the use of a prosthetic.

After he recovers, doctors expect him to be walking on his prosthetic leg in a few months.
