Terminally-ill teen helps raise millions for cancer charity

A terminally-ill British teenager, whose inspirational fundraising mission went viral last week, has now raised more than $5 million.

Stephen Sutton posted had originally hoped to raise 10,000 pounds, or about

$16,000 U.S. dollars for a teenage cancer charity.

The plea came last week on the 19-year-old's Facebook page, Stephen's Story, when he informed his followers that he didn't have long to live.

The response has been overwhelming.

"We aren't a large charity," said Siobhan Dunn with the Teenage Cancer Trust. "We raise about 12 million pounds a year and in less than a week, Stephen has raised a quarter of our budget."

Sutton was overwhelmed as well.

The 19-year-old says he's feeling better right now. Stephen posted a picture of himself on his Facebook page Monday, giving his trademark thumbs up. He wrote, "One week ago I posted a thumbs up farewell photo that went viral. As mentioned, at that point I genuinely thought I was a goner, but one week on I'm still here!"
