4-alarm fire in SF
San Francisco firefighters are looking for the cause of a fire on McAllister and Scott Streets.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Investigators are trying to pinpoint how a fire started at a building at McAllister and Scott Streets in San Francisco Saturday afternoon. What they do know, is that it began in one large residential building before quickly spreading to four buildings.

Thick black smoke could be seen over the city skyline as the fire quickly grew to four-alarms.

There were no fatalities and no injuries, which is good news. Fire crews say most residents were likely out enjoying the weather.

The four different damaged buildings contained about 19 to 25 apartments.

A fireman says residents may not be able to return home tonight.

One resident got home to find a fleet of fire trucks on his street.

"I don't know if my apartment caught on fire. I haven't been able to get close enough yet. But I do know that all my windows have been smashed in, presumably so that the firefighters can get inside," said resident Justin Myowitz .

The Red Cross is on scene to offer assistance to residents.

Most people seemed stunned to return home from errands or hanging out at nearby Alamo Square and find this fire at their corner. One resident of the damaged buildings says there have been fires on this this corner before, so her biggest fear was another fire.

The intersection is located about a block north of Alamo Square Park.
