Bay Area rings in 2016 with spectacular fireworks show
At least 200,000 people watched San Francisco's fireworks show over the Bay.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The new year came in peacefully, despite security concerns around the world and in the Bay Area.

Thousands of people celebrated Thursday night along San Francisco's Embarcadero. A spectacular 15 minute fireworks display in the sky lit up the skyline and could be seen all around the bay.

Officials in charge of the fireworks display over the San Francisco Bay say security was extremely tight this year. A safety zone was set up around the Ferry Plaza during the show.

Oakland and San Francisco had every available officer on the streets, some in plain clothes and others looking out for drunk drivers on the road.

There were no major incidents on the roads.
