Man carries injured hiker 2 miles to safety in Malibu
Dan Reardon and Dina Zaky said they where out on the Escondido Falls hiking trails in Malibu on New Year's Day when they came upon an injured hiker.

MALIBU, Calif. -- A couple was out for a hike in Malibu on New Year's Day when they ended up becoming heroes for an injured man.

Dan Reardon and Dina Zaky said they were out enjoying the day along the hiking trail in Escondido Falls when they came upon the injured man.

According to Zaky, Reardon carried the injured man 2.3 miles up the trail until he could get to the main road where emergency crews were waiting.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department said they were called to the trail at about 3:15 p.m.

Fire officials said the man had suffered injuries to his ankle and knee.

The man was not taken to the hospital, but crews treated him at the scene for his injuries.
