911 dispatcher disciplined for ordering pizza during emergency call
ABC's Aditi Roy has the story.

BROWARD COUNTY, Florida -- A 911 dispatcher in Florida is being disciplined for failing to answer the phone. People tried calling in a medical emergency, but the phone just rang and rang and rang. So what was the dispatcher doing? Ordering pizza.

The Broward County dispatcher was ordering lunch for the office when multiple employees from a doctor's office tried calling after a patient fainted. No one answered. Other people from the office then tried calling, and still, no one picked up.

The dispatcher spent eight minutes on the call, putting in her long order. Five and a half minutes in, she asked her co-workers for final orders. Seven minutes into the call, the dispatcher seemed distracted.

The Sheriff's Department says the dispatcher violated policy, and was disciplined.

So what happens if you call 911 and no one picks up? Don't let the phone keep ringing, and call the nearest police station. You can also try texting.
