CHARSADDA, Pakistan (KGO) -- Twenty people are dead after an attack at a university in Pakistan Wednesday morning. A Pakistani Taliban spokesman is claiming responsibility.

The attack happened around the time a ceremony was about to take place at the Bacha Khan University, where 3,000 students attend.

CNN says at least 20 are confirmed dead and at least 50 others are injured.

This happened in the town of Charsadda in the northwest part of the country. Witnesses reported seeing the attackers armed with AK-47s and grenades.

The police and army quickly stormed in and a gun battle ensued with the terrorists. Officials say they have contained the attackers and killed four of the gunmen.

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.

This was the same group that was responsible for killing 132 children a year ago at another school.
