WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- An elderly motorist slammed into a store in Walnut Creek this morning and the flying debris from the crash injured a pedestrian, a police lieutenant said.

The incident occurred at 10:18 a.m. at a CVS pharmacy in the Countrywood Shopping Center at 738 Bancroft Road, Lt. Lanny Edwards said.

Edwards said an 86-year-old man was experiencing confusion and may have mistaken the gas pedal for his brake when he sent his vehicle careening into the store's exterior.

There was some merchandise outside the store, such as potted flowers, that were sent flying at a nearby pedestrian, Edwards said. The lieutenant did not immediately have information on the extent of the pedestrian's injuries.

The driver did not reportedly suffer injuries in the crash.

No other details about the incident were immediately available.
