Search is on after federal agent loses gun in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A federal agent lost his gun in San Francisco after leaving it on top of his car and the search is now on for his weapon.
According to San Francisco police, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent's handgun was reported lost in the Ingleside neighborhood just before 7 a.m. Friday. Hours later, dispatchers put out the following bulletin to all their officers: "Regarding a lost or stolen loaded firearm. An ICE agent left his phone with a loaded weapon on top of his vehicle and drove off."

The dispatch continued with details on the gun. "The loaded firearm is a Black H&K P200sk .40 caliber weapon."
In the last eight months, federal agents' stolen handguns were used in two high profile murders.
In September, Oakland muralist Anotonio Ramos was allegedly killed by Sean Gibson using an ICE agent's gun that was stolen in San Francisco.

In July, Kate Steinle was killed on Pier 14. The accused gunman, Francisco Sanchez, used a stolen Bureau of Land Management ranger's gun.
An ICE spokesman said he couldn't answer questions about Friday's incident because it's still under investigation.
He issued a short statement that reads in part: "A duty weapon belonging to a special agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was reported missing Friday morning in San Francisco."
