Car crash in Fremont leaves man in critical condition
Investigators are looking into what caused a horrible crash that closed a busy street for eight hours in Fremont overnight.

FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- Investigators are looking into what caused a horrible crash that closed a busy street for eight hours in Fremont overnight.

The accident happened just after 10:15 p.m. Sunday on Paseo Padre Parkway, just before Peralta Boulevard. Police say a witness told them the driver of a Lincoln Continental was racing another car when it lost control and hit a tree.

The vehicle was damaged severely and the engine was separated from the car. A tow truck removed the car from the scene at 5:45 a.m. police said the driver had several broken bones and was in critical condition at the hospital, but he is expected to survive. There is no word on if police are looking for the other driver.

Paseo Padre Parkway is open in both directions.
