OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) --Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry seems to be the man who can do no wrong, perhaps until now. Curry is set to visit a school in Oakland to promote water as an alternative to sugary drinks. Except that the event is sponsored and organized by Brita water filters and some have a problem with that.

Having Steph Curry at your school is a dream come true for any kid. He's an icon, a role model.
On Tuesday, the basketball star will visit Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary in Oakland to promote water as an alternative to sugary drinks.
"With this particular campaign, we're excited that Steph Curry he chose a West Oakland School to highlight something that we believe contributes to healthy living," said Isaac Kos-Read with Oakland Unified.
But it's not just any water, it's Brita filtered water.

The school district admits Brita never contacted them and instead went to the school directly.
Brita has an endorsement contract with the Warriors. Curry has even tweeted about his relationship with the company, which is owned by Clorox, based in Oakland.
Change Lab Solutions in Oakland promotes healthy policies.
"I challenge every other sports figure to do the same -- market healthy things for kids, not soda," said Marice Ashe with Change Lab Solutions.

But others like the Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood see it as a form of branding. We Skyped with them.
"If it were just a public health message, but the fact that it's a marketing event designed to sell a product that's what is concerning," said Josh Golin.
The Oakland Teachers Association agrees that marketing any product to kids should never be done in schools.
There is one more thing the students will be exposed to -- Brita will install water filters at their school.
