SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KGO) -- Police are investigating after racist graffiti was sprayed onto a wall in Marina Park in San Leandro.

Officials said someone spray painted racial slurs directed at Hispanics and African Americans. A picture of a man, along with the number 14 was also spray painted on the wall.

City crews painted over the graffiti early Sunday morning.

Police said the number 14 is connected to the Norteno gang.

The park was packed with families as they celebrated Easter on Sunday.

Parents told ABC7 News they were upset to hear the amphitheater was vandalized, especially since it's so close to the playground. "It's disturbing especially with little kids. I don't think they should be doing this, especially when there are kids and it's a public place where you're not supposed to be showing that to little kids," San Leandro resident Jazmine Ramos said.

Police believe gang members sprayed the graffiti on Saturday night and said the group may be based in Hayward.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call the San Leandro Police Department.
