SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Today is Bike to Work Day, which encourages people to try commuting on two wheels for the first time and celebrates those who bike to work regularly.

An energizer station has food, water, a reusable bag and some excited people encouraging cyclists on Bike to Work Day.

"I ride to work every day here at the center and hopefully other people realize we have bike lockers here, we have bike pumps, fix it gear. So if you want to ride to the center to shop this is a good place to do it," said Elan Feldman, Westfield Valley Fair Mall.

There are 400 energizer stations spread across all nine Bay Area counties. Bike to Work Day encourages people to try commuting on two wheels for the first time and celebrate those cyclists who do it every day.

If your commute is too long to just bike to work, VTA is encouraging people to bike and then transit by hopping on a bus, train or light rail. A "Movers and Shakers" ride is also being held this morning through downtown San Jose and along Guadalupe Trail. It starts at 7:30 at the Martin Luther King Junior Library in downtown San Jose.

Dozens of events are taking place across the Bay Area. Click here for more information.
