Police: Human torso found near Bay Bridge
Oakland police say a worker on a lunch break spotted a torso that had washed up by the old Bay Bridge on Wednesday.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A torso washed up by the old Bay Bridge on Wednesday. Oakland police say a worker spotted it while on a lunch break.

The torso was floating near the rocks near Burma Road, not far from the toll plaza.

Police say the contractor was taking pictures of the bridge and the bay when he looked down and saw the partially clothed torso on the rocks.

"What we are looking at is a young male," said Oakland Police Officer Johnna Watson. "We don't know the race at this time because the torso is so deeply decomposed. They do believe it's been in the water for at least a month, maybe even longer."

Leah Robinson-Leach with Caltrans added, "We do not expect it to have any impact with regard to the bringing down of the old Bay Bridge. That process will continue."

Because the torso is so badly decomposed, it will likely take DNA testing to determine the identity.

Police did say the coroner saw no signs of trauma.
