SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A man has been rushed to the hospital after being rescued at China Beach.

Witnesses say he may have been swept out by waves and then a strong current Friday morning.

A group of swimmers spotted the man struggling in the water. They flagged down a lifeguard who was getting ready to go on duty.

Witnesses say he was fully clothed and even had his shoes on.

He appeared to be in his 50s.

There's no word yet on how he ended up in the water.
