'King of Marbles': Boy, 11, wins National Marbles Championship

GRAND JUNCTION, CO -- While most of his peers play video games, 11 year-old Louie Lee is mastering a game literally older than sliced bread.

Louie won the 93rd National Marbles Championship this week.

"I was interested in video game, but then when I got into the game I thought it was better than video games," said Louie.

His inspiration? His mom.

"I always dreamed that one of my kids would win," said Louie's mother Leah Lee.

Lee has been a marbles coach for over 20 years.

"She taught me how to do backspins, she taught me how to hold the marble right, and I think it's cool because she's my mom," said Louie.

Louie won the championship game in a shutout, and was named King of the 93rd National Marbles Championship.

Another big moment happened for Louie shortly after winning. He had his first kiss.

"They have this tradition, the king has to kiss the queen," said Lee, "I had to kiss her three times for the cameras."

The Queen of the 93rd National Marbles Championship was Haley Grenesko, 13, who defeated Lauren Shuty for the girls crown.

KKCO reports that both winners took home $2,000 college scholarships.
