EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- A wildfire burning near the American River has now grown to more than 2,100 acres forcing evacuations and threatening 2,600 structures in El Dorado and Placer counties.

Cal Fire officials say they are increasingly worried the Trailhead Fire will spread out of control with hot temperatures forecast this weekend.

The fire broke out Tuesday afternoon.

It's only 12 percent contained and air quality officials are warning those in the Sacramento Area to take precautions because of smoky conditions.
