FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) --ABC7 is recognizing seven Bay Area high school seniors for their extraordinary achievements and awards each with a $1,000 scholarship toward his or her college education. Here's a look at a Star Scholar Vibhu Singhal's passion for investing in himself and others could help solve some world problems.
ABC7 Star Vibhu Singhal is a young businessman from Fremont with lots of savvy and passion for investing.
"I'm looking at a business plan to expand Tesla into Japan," "My end goal is to start my own private equity firm to invest in businesses of tomorrow," Singhal said.
The Irvington High School graduate will be stepping on to the University of California, Berkeley's campus as one of 200 incoming freshmen awarded the prestigious Regents' Scholarship to help guide his success while studying business and economics.
"Business is a two-way street. You have businesses, yes, making money but at the same time solving the problem and by investing in these businesses we can help contribute to a better tomorrow," Singhal said.
And that's what Singhal hopes to accomplish.
"The reason I'm so captivated by investing is because I think investing in finance is actually the key to contributing to solving many of the problems plaguing our world," Singhal said. "Help combat the environmental problems faced by our world today."
This finance driven student also invested in Irvington's student run newspaper, The Voice, not just to write, but to keep it going.
"It was struggling to pay for printing and pay for many things. I implemented a new system of advertising that helped kind of turn things around," he said.
"I've asked him to stay on later. He's not interested at all," said Journalism Advisor Matthew Phillips.
Singhal is a problem solver and loves to achieve a lot of things and like many kids his age, he needs to let loose. His solution, bicycling hiking and dancing.
"It was pretty satisfying to be named an ABC7 Star Scholar. A moment of pride for me. It was kind of like recognition for my four years of hard work and beyond," Singhal said.
