Police say burglars used battering ram to break into San Francisco shop
Police say a team of burglars used a battering ram to break into a Fisherman's Wharf photo and video shop early Tuesday morning.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco police are investigating a smash and grab at an electronics store in Fisherman's Wharf. A van crashed into a storefront at Leavenworth and Jefferson.

The sliding glass door of the store has been completely smashed in and an unknown amount of merchandise was stolen.

A security guard says at 2:50 a.m. he noticed a van hop the curb go on sidewalk, knocking over trash can. Surveillance video shows the suspects wedge a metal ram in between the van and the glass door, then the driver hit the gas, slamming a ram into the door and breaking through it.

The video shows the suspects running in with empty bags and then leaving with bags full of stolen goods. At this point, there is no word on the value of what was taken.

A couple of years ago San Francisco and the Peninsula had a rash of electronic store break-ins similar to this, more than half a dozen stores hit by thieves; at least one suffered $100,000 in damage.
