OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Hundreds of people laced up their running shoes at lake Merritt for a very good cause, the annual Friends of Faith Walk and Run.

The event was named after Faith Fancher, a former reporter at KTVU. She died in 2003 after a long battle with breast cancer.

ABC7's Carolyn Tyler was her friend and is one of the founders of the organization. Money raised at the event helps uninsured, or underinsured breast cancer patients in the Bay Area.

The walk began at 10 a.m. from the gazebo near Children's Fairyland.
