San Francisco jail inmate accidentally released has turned himself in

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The San Francisco inmate Victor Rodriguez, who was accidentally released from jail on Thursday night has turned himself in.

Eileen Hirst, the Chief of Staff at the San Francisco Sheriff's Office, tells ABC7 News that Rodriguez walked into the jail's lobby at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday accompanied by his family. He will not face any new charges.

The Sheriff's Office says a court clerk's error resulted in Victor Rodriguez's release on Wednesday night. It wasn't until Thursday morning that someone noticed the mistake..

"Unfortunately, the court clerk made a mistake entering that information, so the information we received was that all charges had been dismissed and accordingly, we released him," said Eileen Hirst, the Chief of Staff at the San Francisco's Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's office says Rodriguez,20, was already serving time in connection with a robbery, battery and resisting arrest when he made threats to deputies. Rodriguez's attorney says the judge dismissed one case and modified his probation on another, leaving him with approximately three months left to serve.

The court Told ABC7 News that they are is looking into the circumstances surrounding the clerical error.
