SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) --Two weeks after Samsung voluntarily recalled its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, the US Consumer Products Safety Commission has followed suit with a formal recall.

The announcement was almost immediately followed by an impassioned plea from Samsung.
Samsung says it's already collected 130,000 of the defective phones blamed for starting fires everywhere from the bedside to the roadside.
