6 arrested linked to home invasions in several East Bay cities

FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- The Alameda County district attorney says six people have been arrested in connection with three home invasions in Fremont, Livermore and Danville.

However, so far there is no link to other robberies that occurred in other Contra Costa towns recently, including an armed robbery in Orinda.

Home security footage taken in late August at a home in Fremont's Mission Hills area shows five armed intruders came in through the patio door. The video captured them and their identifying attire as they moved through the house.

It is one of two home invasions that happened in Fremont in the same month.

A wide-ranging investigation by the FBI's safe streets task force resulted in the arrests of six people on Friday and Monday night for the home invasion robberies in Fremont, and Danville and Livermore as well.

"There are a number of other home invasion robberies that are similar in nature that we're continuing to investigate. One of those includes the Orinda one, but no arrests as of yet have been made in that case," said Contra Costa Deputy District Attorney Barry Grove.

The Orinda armed robbery happened last week outside the home of Orinda School Board Member Carol Brown and her husband Thomas Spalding.

"When the guy said give it up, I reached into my pocket, pulled out my wallet and gave it to him. He hit me in the head with his gun," said Thomas Spalding, who was attacked in the Orinda incident.

Brown was shot twice. She was treated at a hospital and later released.

This is one of several recent armed robberies in other cities in Contra Costa County which the FBI is investigating. One of those happened in Pinole.

"I heard five shots. Real loud. I knew it was a gun. Then all of a sudden I heard a woman screaming bloody murder," said Mary Grogan, a neighbor.

The D.A. stressed that this is an on-going investigation. At least one case involves a murder. More arrests are expected.
