CONCORD, Calif. (KGO) -- Concord Police Department lent a helping hand to an elderly resident whose power had been shut off.

They say she called the department because she had no power and she was cold. Police discovered she had forgotten to pay her PG&E bill, so they helped her pay it and waited with her until her power was back on.

Police are also reaching out to help her get long-term resources.

They are reminding everyone to make sure to check in with their loved ones, especially older relatives, to make sure that they are safe during these cold months.
