A chef from a popular television competition is getting political on his restaurant receipts.

A customer received a receipt from Kiwiana, an upscale restaurant in New York owned by "Top Chef" alum Mark Simmons.

The bottom of the receipt reads, "Immigrants make America great (they also cooked your food and served you today)."

Simmons said that he created the note soon after President Donald Trump's travel ban was put in place for seven Muslim-majority countries.

Simmons moved to America from New Zealand 10 years ago. He said he was just practicing his freedom of speech, and the response he has received has been pretty positive overall.

Simmons competed in season four of "Top Chef."
