Officers shoot, kill male suspect in Napa after exchanging gunfire

NAPA, Calif. (KGO) -- Officers in Napa shot and killed a man after responding to a report of shots fired in a residential neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff's officials said shortly before 2:30 p.m. that Linda Vista Avenue is shut down from West Park Avenue to West Pueblo Avenue.

Police and Napa County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the area when a suspect exited a home in a silver Honda sedan, and began shooting at the officers.

"The officers responded to the 911 calls of shots being fired. The officers set up in the area and as they were set up the subject backed out of either the driveway or the garage. As he was leaving the area in his car he began to shoot at the police officers," Napa Police Chief Steve Potter said.

Some of the officers involved in the shooting sustained minor injuries.

The shooting forced the temporary lockdown of West Park Elementary School a block away. That lockdown was later lifted.

The officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect killing him. An investigation into the shooting was ongoing.
