SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Santa Clara County will offer help to residents interested in becoming U.S. citizens this weekend.

The county's 27th annual citizenship day is Saturday.

Officials say 190,000 people in the county are eligible to become citizens, but less than 10-percent do so each year.

"If you are unhappy with way things are going at national level, if you are unhappy with the fact that we have a federal government that is targeting immigrants, then the best thing you can do is to become a naturalized citizen so that next time your vote will count," Deputy County Executive David Campos said.

Citizenship day takes place at San Jose City College, and Rebekah Children Services in Gilroy.
