Newark police searching for gunman after man found shot in head in strip mall parking lot

NEWARK, Calif. (KGO) -- Police in Newark are searching for a gunman after a person was found dead in a car in a strip mall parking lot.

Police say the shooting happened around noon on Newark Boulevard. Officers arrived to find a man shot in the head inside a car that was still running. They did not find a weapon inside the vehicle.

This is Newark's first homicide of the year. Police did not have a description of the suspect immediately available.
