ALAMEDA, Calif. (KGO) -- Slo-Slo, a 50-pound tortoise wasn't so slow Friday when he led Alameda County Animal Shelter officials on a chase through Alameda.

He escaped from a heated pen in his owner's backyard after a plumber left the door open. He didn't get too far before his escape was reported to the Alameda Animal Shelter.

Officials were able to cover Slo-Slo in a towel and roll him into a vehicle and contacted his owners, who are in Lake Tahoe for the weekend.

Slo-Slo is in good shape and is said to be very hungry, eating kale and waiting for his owners to come claim him.
