There was a crazy sight in Santa Cruz on Thursday just a couple of blocks from the beach. A mountain lion was found in a tree at a shopping center.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KGO) -- There was a crazy sight in Santa Cruz on Thursday just a couple of blocks from the beach. A mountain lion was found in a tree at a shopping center.

The mountain lion was tranquilized by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

According to ABC7's media partner, the Mercury News, workers from the Puma Project evaluated the mountain lion.

They fitted the animal with a GPS collar to track its movements once it is released back into the wild.

Two schools were briefly locked down and people nearby were asked to shelter in place while the mountain lion was in the tree.
