Police arrested Two Santa Rosa Junior College students accused of shooting an alleged prostitute and hitting a male in the head with a gun at a Motel 6 in Rohnert Park.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. (KGO) -- Two Santa Rosa Junior College students are accused of shooting a woman at a Motel 6 in Rohnert Park last week.

Evidence from a surveillance camera helped police arrest them Friday night.

Police say the woman was engaging in prostitution when one suspect shot her and hit the male who was staying with her in the head with the gun as he was running away.

"Just really speechless to be honest," Santa Rosa Junior College Coach Lenny Wagner said. Wagner can't believe two of his own students could be involved in an attempted homicide. "Sibley, he's an outgoing kid who does well in classes and he's a very, very enjoyable kid to coach."

But Threadgill had a troubled past. His own father was executed in 2013 by the state of Texas for murder. "I had talk with him in the past when he was dealing with his father's execution and I referred him at one time to student health services," Wagner said.

Wagner says both men were taking an off-season training course to get them ready for football team tryouts.

Ronnie Paul Threadgill, 22, has been charged with attempted homicide and assault with a firearm. One of Threadgill's roommates, Koa James Sibley, 19, was charged with being an accessory to the attempted homicide.

Minutes after the 911 call reporting the shooting, a responding Rohnert Park patrol officer stopped Threadgill and Sibley after they drove away from a Jack in the Box that is located in the same shopping center as the Motel 6. "Shortly after, see subject running away from motel getting into the same vehicle," Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Sgt. Aaron Johnson said.

The two men told the officer they were Santa Rosa Junior College football players and they had just stopped at Jack in the Box to get some food, which was in the car.

Police say that as the officers were out with Threadgill and Sibley, another officer requested emergency assistance so the men were let go.

Detectives say they located surveillance video from several businesses in which showed the suspect who allegedly shot the victim being dropped off by a car and walking towards the motel.

The video showed the suspect running from the motel a short time later and the same car picking him up across the street.

When detectives found out about the traffic stop of Threadgill and Sibley, they realized Sibley's car matched the vehicle seen in the video and Threadgill matched the description of the shooter.

The male hit with the gun, who was later arrested for pimping, was able to identify Threadgill as the subject who hit him, police say.

Both men were arrested on Friday. The woman is still hospitalized with serious injuries and is unable to communicate with detectives at this time, police say.
