The brother of an Alameda County Sheriff's Office employee went missing Thursday in Lake Tahoe and his family and sheriff's officials are asking the public for help in their efforts to locate him.

At 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Dan Pham got on his kayak at Lester Beach in Lake Tahoe and has not been seen since, sheriff's officials said.

El Dorado County sheriff's deputies, the U.S. Coast Guard and other state agencies searched the area but were unable to locate him.

Alameda County sheriff's officials said the family is very distraught and is asking anyone in the area to keep an eye out for Pham.

Pham's family has set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds to purchase or rent a drone to help in the search.
