Crews prepping for waterfront fireworks show in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Crews in San Francisco began preparing for the city's Fourth of July fireworks spectacular Monday.

Producers promised lots of red, white and boom, provided the Bay Area's notorious fog stays away.

Dozens of technicians were busy loading 10,000 firework shells into plastic tubes or mortars on several barges off Pier 50 - the final step before the fireworks show above the Bay.

Producers of the event say all systems are a go.

"We are planning a great show. We hope the fog cooperates and clears by show time," said Jeff Thomas with Pyro Spectaculars by Souza.

Residents and tourists are also hoping the weather cooperates. "That's one thing that makes you think twice about coming down here," San Francisco resident Kevin Chung said.

Barges will be floated down between Pier 39 and Aquatic Park where fireworks will be launched Tuesday.

The 25 minute show begins at 9:30 p.m., and the prime viewing spots will be along The Embarcadero and Fisherman's wharf.

San Francisco's is one of the largest shows on the West Coast produced by Pyro Spectaculars by Souza. Officials would not disclose a price tag for the show.

"It's somewhere between $20,000 and $500,000 dollars," said Thomas.
