The new Muni line was supposed to carry passengers into Chinatown the day after Christmas next year. Now the project isn't expected to open until Nov. 2019. The Central Subway program director told The Examiner the delay stems from the contractor, Tutor Perini, filing paperwork late.

Perini is disputing that claim, saying the SFMTA changed some designs which delayed the start of work.
