Reward money increased in search for suspect in shooting of student in SF

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- There were new clues and new reward money unveiled on Monday in the effort to find the killer of a college student. Calvin Riley was fatally shot in San Francisco's Aquatic Park nearly one year ago.

Kariann Riley says the past 11 months have been hell. Her 20-year-old son was shot to death while playing Pokémon Go on his phone. It happened August 6 of last year, around 10 p.m.

"It's so important to our family to have closure, to find the person who shot my baby boy in the back and make it so he can't hurt anybody else," Kariann said.

Congresswoman Jackie Speier represents San Mateo County, where the Riley's live. On Monday, she announced the city of San Francisco is offering a $50,000 reward. The U.S. Park police are adding $10,000, combined with the $50,000 already put forth by the Riley family.

The $110,000 might be enough to tempt someone to talk. "We do know that money motivates people," Speier said.

There are also new clues. Park police said a 2006 to 2009 black Audi A3 SUV could be of interest. And the make of a white car previously believed to be a Toyota has been changed to a 2013 four-door Hyundai Sonata.

Investigators believe it was seen driving up and down nearby Van Ness Avenue around the time of the shooting.

Since the murder, officers have passed out flyers and released a sketch of the suspect. Now they're hoping for new leads.

"We've been living a nightmare every day," Kariann said.
