The new owners of the Macy's store at the Stonestown Galleria in San Francisco have filed paperwork with the city to transform the space into a home for retailers, restaurants and a movie theater.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The new owners of the Macy's store at the Stonestown Galleria in San Francisco have filed paperwork with the city to transform the space into a home for retailers, restaurants and a movie theater.

The owners, General Growth Property, will close the Macy's in 2018 to make way for the new development.

The San Francisco Chronicle first reported the plan.

Macy's has announced plans to close 100 stores in the coming years.
