Equipment failure blamed for power outage in San Francisco's Richmond District

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A power outage affected thousands of residents in the Richmond District in San Francisco Sunday.

The outage was reported before 9:30 a.m. near California and 17th.

The San Francisco Fire Department was called to the scene and closed all but one lane in both directions near the intersection. The scene has since been cleared and all lanes are back open.

As of 8 p.m. less than 150 PG&E customers were without power after more than 3,000 had power restored.

An equipment failure was blamed for the outage.
