San Jose police investigating fatal shooting at apartment complex

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- San Jose police are investigating a deadly home invasion. Neighbors say they're worried about an escalation in violence.

Once daylight hit so many people were leaving for work to go to a lot of the tech companies in North San Jose. It was a horrific night, filled with questions and fear.

It's not something you expect to hear at around 8:40 at night at the Elan at River Oaks apartment complex in North San Jose.

"Just a gunshot, that's all I heard," said a San Jose resident.

A woman who lives next door to where the shooting took place did not want to be identified.

Police say two men forced their way into an apartment and shot a man.

"It was super scary. It was very, very scary," said a San Jose resident.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he died. Police did not make any arrests or have a suspect description.

"It was very shocking to us. It was very, very shocking. Kind of all off guard for us," said a neighbor.

Several neighbors came up to ABC7 News to complain about what they say is a lack of security at the apartment complex that houses mainly workers for nearby tech companies, like Cisco.

"I just don't like to see people get hurt. I've been here for four years. They're very strong, they're just hardworking people going to work every day like myself," said Debbie, apartment resident.

Residents say there have been too many crimes here already recently from car break-ins, to a jogger robbed at gunpoint. They say they've brought their concerns to the apartment managers, but haven't seen much change. And now this murder, something that has clearly rattled the residents.

"We've seen... not this much, honestly not this much. I'm kind of scared now," said Manu Bhadoria, apartment resident.

Elan Apartments management released a statement saying they are "aware of the situation and we are doing everything we can to assist the police with their investigation. Our first priority is always the safety and security of our residents."

This is San Jose's 21st homicide of the year.
